In other words, axial coding is one way to construct linkages between data.

In practice it is often difficult to classify research as being either ‘qualitative’ or ‘quantitative’ as much research contains aspects of both (Bryman, PDF | As it is indicated in the title, this chapter includes the research methodology of the dissertation. ... • Information Theory and Coding Systems, etc. AI, Expert Systems and Big Data ... The dataset, hand-coding methods, and general analytical strategy for testing the automated programs, given the features of our hand-coding project, are described in the next section (section 2.0). We then describe the metrics used to evaluate the accuracy of the automated methods in reproducing the hand-coded results in section 3.0. In section Coding is a process of identifying a passage in the text or other data items (photograph, image), searching and identifying concepts and finding relations between them. Therefore, coding is not just labeling; it is linking of data to the research idea and back to other data...

We close by outlining related works and offering a summary and outlook. This article is an improved and slightly extended version of Salinger, Plonka and Prechelt (2007) and focuses on research method, not on research results. Coding! Steps! “The qualitative methods literature still lacks a systematic explication, presentation and discussion of coding technologies. Usually, coding strategies are handed over from one researcher generation to the next orally as an instituteʼs tradition.” ! (Kelle/ Kluge 1999, translated by GL)! 2.
Interview Data (Identifying & Coding Themes) Open coding. At this first level of coding, you are looking for distinct concepts and categories in the data, which will form the basic units of your analysis. In other words, you are breaking down the data into first level concepts, or master headings, and second-level categories, or subheadings. To conduct qualitative research, you would primarily need to select an area of research and research questions, and in this sense the type of question you select will guide your research process. Qualitative research is inductive, so it does not require an initial hypothesis, unlike quantitative research.
